Candle Burning Safety Tips:

Burning a candle is easy, and so is following proper candle care and safety guidelines. By doing so, you can extend the life of your candle, prevent soot and tunneling, and enjoy a safe burning experience.

  • Trim the Wick: Before lighting, always trim the wick to ¼ inch and remove any debris from the wax pool. This prevents the flame from flaring up and helps your candle burn more evenly. Trim the wick every few hours to prolong the life of your candle—proper wick maintenance can make your candle last up to 25% longer.

  • First Burn Matters: The first burn is crucial. Candles should burn one hour for every inch in diameter. For example, a 2-inch-wide candle should burn for 2 hours. If you don't allow the wax to melt from edge to edge on the first burn, a "memory ring" will form, causing the candle to tunnel for the rest of its life.

  • Follow Burn Time Instructions: Avoid burning your candle longer than recommended, typically no more than four hours at a time. Overburning causes carbon buildup on the wick, leading to "mushrooming" and an unstable, oversized flame that can produce smoke and soot.

  • Avoid Drafts: Keep candles away from fans, air conditioners, open windows, or high-traffic areas where the flame could be disturbed. Moving air can cause uneven burning and those pesky black marks on the glass.

  • Store Properly: Store your candles in a cool, dark, and dry place with the lid on to keep them free from dust and debris. Highly fragrant candles have a lifespan of 6 to 12 months, so use and replace them often to maintain their appearance and performance.
